Thea Hopkins is a member of the Wampanoag Tribe of Aquinnah, Martha’s Vineyard. She is also part Iroquois, African-American, Irish, French, and Portugese. She tours internationally with her Americana/Contemporary Folk style, being compared to icons such as Nick Drake and Bob Dylan. The legendary group Peter, Paul & Mary recorded Thea’s song “Jesus is on the Wire” in 2004, saying “Thea Hopkins is one of the most literate, poetic, emotionally moving of the new songwriters to arrive on the scene in the last few years.” Her song “Chickasaw” won first place in the American Songwriter Lyric Contest in 2012. She was chosen to be a 2016 fellow of the Native Arts and Cultures Foundation and is currently working on a new album.
