Armed with a soulful, velvety voice, singer/songwriter Kaeley Jade possesses the captivating ability to craft music that is both playful and poignant. Effortlessly blending lush poetry and hooky melodic lines, the Edmonton-based Métis artist creates her own brand of folk-pop that is fresh, polished and vibrant.
Since dropping her debut single “Years Ago” in January 2020, Kaeley has been making waves in the Canadian music scene. After a strong community response, “Years Ago” was added to the regular rotation on 102.3 NOW! Radio. Her music has been featured in Spotify editorial playlists including New Music Friday, New Music Friday Canada and Fresh Finds, and her song, “Elijah,” was placed in Link to the Past Productions’ feature film, No Apology. Kaeley’s music has been played on Indigenous radio stations across North America, and her latest single, “Highway 16” has been rising in the charts of the Indigenous Music Countdown, recently breaking into the top 10.
Kaeley wasted no time in beginning her career as a singer/songwriter and was performing on stages in and around Alberta by the age of nine. Now a veteran of the stage, Kaeley has appeared at a multitude of venues including the Big Valley Jamboree and the Tim Horton’s Brier, and has even lent her talent as a vocalist to the Edmonton Pops Orchestra. Kaeley possesses an impressive ability to move from ballads to bops with ease, and there is an authenticity and personability in her stage presence that creates an experience that is both electric and evocative.
Alongside her career as a singer/songwriter, Kaeley also works as an actor and visual artist, and she holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Acting from the University of Alberta. Her ability to work artistically in multiple disciplines imbues her songwriting with depth and fullness, which is evident in her debut EP, Years Ago.
Recorded with the Juno-nominated team at Velveteen Audio, Years Ago is an evocative exploration of the challenges that arise when building relationships, wrapped in a crisp package of folk-pop. Inspired by artists such as Vance Joy and The Lumineers, Years Ago brims with powerful imagery and slick vocal lines. The title track is a bubbly slice of indie pop that draws upon Kaeley’s struggle to make the right decisions while navigating a difficult situation. “Bittersweet” is a melancholic tribute to a love long gone, while “Elijah” is a powerful cry for comfort. An acoustic guitar-driven romp, “Highway 16” rounds off the EP on a hopeful note, reminding listeners that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.
