Byron Nicolai is a traditional Yup’ik drummer and singer from Toksook Bay, Alaska — a village with a population of around 600 residents. Nicolai, who performs under I Sing, You Dance, gained his popularity by posting videos of himself singing traditional native songs on Facebook as a way to inspire Alaska native kids to engage with cultural traditions and music. His page I Sing, You Dance has thousands of views now. In 2015, Byron performed at the White House. Byron Nicolai joins us this week to share his album, “I Am Yup’ik”.
