Born and raised in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Métis singer-songwriter and guitarist Brandon Baker is storming the indie rock scene with his band, Electric Religious. As a kid, Brandon learned from traditional Métis songs, accompanying his fiddle-playing brother on guitar and using music as a way to stay out of trouble. Absorbing early influences from Jimi Hendrix to Linkin Park, he grew from playing the basement jams and community centers of Prince Albert to studying jazz and contemporary music at MacEwan University in Edmonton. Brandon was named Edmonton Music Awards’ “Artist to Watch” in 2015. Diving into their latest album, “Yeah, Yeah, No”, you can hear how Electric Religious incorporates life experiences and knowledge of musical genres into tracks that are bursting with inspiration, insight, and hope. Their hit single “Revolution” recently reached number one on the Indigenous Music Countdown charts and a video for their track “Fever” is coming soon.
